You might have come across someone, who just walked through the room and did not notice the person sitting there, spilt milk, a fallen pen or an open window/door. I was quite surprised when I noticed this for the first time in a person very well-known to me. Being aware and being alive are two different things. We are equipped with senses such as sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch that help us to take in the world around us, but perception is the process of becoming aware of things around us in the present moment. Being in the present moment is one of the virtues we are trying to achieve through meditation. Regular meditation can develop the skill of being in the present moment. One needs to work on it hard.
